The Recession

Lately we have heard about a lot of businesses suffering from the recession. Many of these businesses were small ones, so I was very suprised when I heard that some luxery corporate businesses were also suffering. Ittierre, the Italian manufacturer that makes Just Cavalli, is feeling the pain of the recession. Roberto Cavalli was quoted saying how he is hoping that the pieces for Just Cavalli Fall 2009 even get massively produced! It will be a shame if they don't, because the collection is amazing!!! Here are a few of my faves...

How to Fake Looking Skinny

Ok, so no one has the perfect body. But, i'm going to tell you how to fake it.

1. Wear One Color
If you wear similar color tops and bottoms you will instantly loose 5 pounds!! Or wear a solid color dress that hits right below the knee. If you decide to go with black you will look even slimmer. Why not add some funky, fun shoes to spice the outfit up?

2. Proportions
Make sure you blanace yourself out. DO NOT wear a billowy top with baggy jeans. Instead, wear a billowy top with some skinny jeans. Or wear a big full skirt with a fitted top.

3. Think Long
Cardigans that end directly at the waist tend to shorten the body. Opt out for a longer cardigan, this will ultimately create the illusion of a longer torso.

4. Add a Belt
Not only is wearing belts at a hot trend, it also helps your figure out. Wearing a belt accentuates your waist, which is most likely the smallest part on your torso. Choose a wider belt over a thinner one, this will make you look smaller.

Kate Winslet

Personally, I thought Kate Winslet's gown was gorgeous. She wore a grey ensamble made exclusively for her by Yves St. Laurent. However, one of her toughest critics did not like her gown one bit. Winslet's 8 year old daughter, Mia, didn't like the color, she thought the gray was too dreary. I have to disagree with Mia, I thought the dress had a smooth safistication and the grey color complimented that. The lace with rose detailing made the gown elegant, and the A-symetrical strap made it current. I also loved her hair, it loked very futuristic, yet had a 50's vibe to it. Her jewlery, all by Chopard, added some glitz and glam. What do you think about Kate's look??

Oscar Madness!!!

Ok, so I couldn't wait untill tomorrow to gush about this year's red carpet wonders and blunders. Most of the ladies made great choices this year! Some of my favorites were...

Angie
I love how she paired some fun emerald earings with her black ensamble. The plunging neckline is sexy, yet modest? I wonder who is watching all her children right now...

Sarah Jessica Parker
MY FAVORITE!! Sarah Jessica Parker's "light mint" haute couture gown. I love the full skirt paired with the cinched waist. Look at the detail on the bodice of the dress, so intricate.

Natalie Portman
Wow!!! She look effortless. I love the color of her gown, very unique but subtle.

Anne Hathaway
Anne..you did me proud! She looks iridescent!!! I love how she rocks her fair skin, she pulls it off amazingly.

I cringed at these looks....

Tilda Swinton
EWWW Tilda. Always wears unflaterring shapes. Also, BLAH colors. Does NOT rock her fair complexion!
Mickey
Mickey Rourke...always dresses a little "out there." However, I am so sorry to hear about his dog, Loki, who passed away at the age of 18 only several days ago.

Best and Worst Dressed in Entertainment this Week

Halle Berry looked stunning in a very flattering gown as she arrived at the Black Women in Hollywood luncheon. The gown hugged her in all the right places, and the color complimented her complexion perfectly.

Future Fashionista Harlow, looks too cute in her faux fur coat! She has got fashion in her blood! Here, Nicole Richie took time out of viewing fashion shows to take a nice stroll with Harlow in NYC.

I LOVE Paula Abdul, but not her outfit. The tapestry look is just too much, even for Paula. The white shoes really aren't doing it for me either. I would have much perferred her in a simple cocktail dress with some great heels and bold jewlry for a pre-oscar soirree. (The vacuums were gifts) Weird...

Jamie Lynn-Sigler, Mena Suvari, and Tori Spelling all looked very Chic in the front row of the Rebecca Taylor runway show at Bryant Park!

Viva Las Vegas and Ralph Lauren Fall 2009 RTW

I just got back from a study tour in Vegas with school. It was very fun, and I learned A LOT! We went to an off-price trade show, sourcing at MAGIC, and we got a tour of Fashion Show Mall. Going on this trip just further confirmed my need to be a professional in the Fashion World. At the mall we also saw a fashion show from a new store called Metro Park, which has very hip urban clothing. Below are a few pictures I snapped from the fashion show.
This is backstage, well it was underground the mall, before the show.

Cute look from Metro Park
Another great look from Metro Park

Moving on....So, I fell in love with Ralph Lauren's collection as always. His pieces seemed to have a prep boy feel with a vintage-esque twist. A few pieces were VERY interesting and VERY original. Lauren showed off his skills with some patchwork.

I love how he paired the patchwork with different styles of dress. One being casual, and the other a bit more dressy. This just shows how versitile his collection can be.
